My little tween daughter decided this year, for her birthday, she wanted a grown up looking room and for me to get rid of all the princess decor. As if I needed another reminder that my little girly is growing up. So we set out looking for cool and trendy ways to make her room more suitable for her age. She decided on a zebra themed room with pops of hot pink, lime green and purple. We found her bedding and I got busy painting the walls a pretty lavender and making cornices for her windows. We found a few ideas to add pizzazz to the walls, but there was one area directly above her bed that I just couldn’t decide what to do with.

That was until I found Beautiful Wall Decals online! Beautiful Wall Decals offers several thousand products to choose from, but what really stood out for me was the fact these decals were cut and not printed. The wall decals we have looked at in the stores have this clear backing to them and even after you smooth them out on the wall, you still can tell it is there. They just didn’t look right to me. My daughter is really into monogramming on everything (I even had to put it on her window cornices) so we decided to look into something along those lines to fill that empty space above her bed.

The wall decal we chose was called Fancy Name Personalized Wall Decal. This particular one is available in 4 sizes and we chose the 30 X 15 to fit perfectly in the space we wanted to fill. I wanted it in black to match the zebra theme of her room although there were 62 color choices to actually choose from! The whole ordering process was super easy, just 3 steps to complete including filling in the name for the decal. I was very impressed with the quick shipping of our order and just could not wait to put it up for her. After reviewing the instructions, we were able to put the decal on her wall without any trouble at all. It actually went on better than the ones I previously placed on other walls in our home. I absolutely love the way it turned out. It is the first thing you see as you open her door and makes such a huge, striking statement about her. It was the perfect solution to fill the space above her bed and just looks amazing on her wall. The scrolls are so pretty and the black is very vivid. Everyone that has seen it comments on how gorgeous it is.

Chalkboard Count-down Board DIY!

As the holidays draw near and the snow is falling my 3 year old daughter keeps saying "It's Christmas now mommy!" She can't conceptualize that just because there is snow on the ground and carols playing in the store- it doesn't mean that it is Christmas. It breaks my heart to see her crestfallen face every day when I have to explain that it is still "coming." 

There are many things to count down to throughout the year, and I've seen so many countdown objects out there. I don't want something that has snowmen on it, or is really tailored to one event; I want to be able to change it out and have it be universally used for all of our count-down events... everything from holidays to sleepovers. Drawing inspiration from several boards on pinterest (check them out below) I finally came up with the perfect idea for our family. A Chalkboard countdown board.

Check it out! I love it because it is versatile, decor friendly, and super simple to make and use (a must in my house). Want to make your own? I've created an easy DIY guide below.

What you Need: 

Wood Board- I used a pine board I found at lowes that I thought looked perfect- it is 2ft long, just over 7" tall and less than 1" thick. You can use whatever size works best for you.

Chalkboard Paint- I used the paint-on kind, but they also have spray.

Decal- found HERE on Beautiful Wall Decals. I used size 8" wide and 6.5" tall in white. Pick whatever fits your board best.

To create it: 

1. Sand the board if needed (mine didn't) and paint a few coats until it looks even.

2. Once it is completely dry apply the decal following the instructions BWD provides. I applied my decal more on the left of the  board than the right since I wanted more room to write what we were counting down to than the letters. I found that the decal really wasn't a fan of sticking to the chalkboard paint, so you may need to use a little elbow grease. Once I applied it I used a hair dryer to warm it up and smooth it in firmly to make sure it was well-stuck.

3. Write your days and event!

Having this around has been so much fun! My daughter loves to help me write the new numbers every day, and she can now conceptualize when Christmas is. Not only this, but I'm using the board as an educational device teaching her how to write numbers and counting backwards! I can't believe I didn't make this sooner... it would have been so wonderful while her daddy was deployed!

My Review

If you have been reading my blog for a while you know that I have had the pleasure of being able to review a few different decal companies. However, I must say that Beautiful Wall Decals has the largest selection of decals that I have seen to date. In fact, when trying to decide which decal I wanted to review it took me some time because there are just so many options available on the site that caught my eye. Anyways the decal that I ended up deciding on is called Imperfection Beauty. I thought the quote was very cute and it would fit into my downstairs hallway lovely. Well, guess what I was right.

I had my significant other install the decal in the hallway and the process was very easy for him and it looked great. In my opinion the decal really does look like it is painted on my wall. Overall, I am pleased with the quality of the decal and it did not take long for it to arrive to my home either. Also, based on the quality of the decals I have to say that the price that they charge for them are affordable. With Christmas approaching rapidly this could even make a great Christmas gift for someone. You know how I am with my unique Christmas gifts lol.

Before and After Wall Decal from Beautiful Wall Decals- Blogger Review!

When we moved into our house last December every single wall was stark white.  Until a few weeks ago they were all dingy white from my kiddos handprints etc.  This fall I’m ready to transform the interior of our home with new paint.  I started with the most noticeable area of our home — the wall above the fireplace.  I wanted a dramatic change so I went with an accent wall in a dark chocolate brown.  The inset I painted a dark grey.  After several coats of paint I was pretty happy with the result:

Awhile back I came across I quote that I really liked.  I wrote it down because I knew I’d need it again one day.  The quote was “Together is a wonderful place to be”.  I thought it would be great for an area where family gathers — for us, it’s the living room and I found the perfect wall decal at BeatifulWallDecals.com.  They use the highest quality vinyl available and are cut, not printed so they look painted on the wall instead of having a clear background.  They have several thousand product to choose from and the color selection is amazing.  You choose the size, color and customization, if any.  Shipping is FREE on any order size in the United States and comes with a free decal to practice with.

There is an installation video on the website and I watched it a couple of times before starting.  I have a tendency to screw up things like this but I was determined to get it right.  Things started out alright.  I taped the design to the wall approximately where I wanted it and used a level to get it straight.  Then I lifted it up and slowly peeled off the backing.  It was going pretty well until I got to the top where I had it taped, I could have used an extra set of hands but my hubby wasn’t home.  The whole thing came un-taped and I had to improvise.  I can tell it’s slightly uneven my my husband says he can’t tell.

 Overall, the process is fairly easy but I do advise having a little help, especially if your decal is long like mine was.  I think it looks good but wonder if I should have gotten a little bit larger size for the space I put it in.

Summertime Blues
